You can't visit Hurghada without stopping by the Red Sea. On this particular day, I was embodying the one and only Anthony Bourdain. Let me set the scene. We started the day off by visiting the local market to pick up the freshest fish and vegetables. After choosing your produce you get to chose how you would like it to be cooked. Here comes the fun part, we headed over to the private boat we rented. There's no other way to experience the best of both worlds, other than supporting the locals whilst still enjoying your holiday as a tourist.
It's only fitting that the chef is also the tour guide, captain and crew member, a 4 in 1 if you will. We set sail surrounded by nothing but the sea which changed shades of blue as the sun shimmered off the waves. There's something almost emotional about moments like these. You find yourself floating in the middle of the sea and all that matters is the here and now. Nothing else. You realise all your worries fade one by one as the waves pass. The best part of this all is of course knowing there's a seafood feast waiting for you back on the boat.
We chose a variety of native fish and prawns. The fish was baked with potatoes - almost tajine style and had this buttery texture. The chef presented the prawns grilled with peppers and onions. My favourite thing had to be the bulgur. He cooked it in the bag which kept it light and fluffy.
We ended the trip by dolphin spotting. It’s an exertion for the books - pure bliss with the read sea as your back drop.
