WELCOME HOME FOODIE CREW

The Full Story

For some, food is art, for others it's a second thought, but for me, it's life. Food has the power to transport you back to a memory or the power to create a new one. It allows you to embrace different cultures and connects you with people all over the world. It allows you to experiment and have fun with new flavours and techniques. But most importantly, it allows you to experience love and warmth through every bite.

My first encounter with food came from my grandma. I would skip nursery  just to stay and watch her cook. She breathed life into the food and you can tell. She taught me the importance of food, on the good days and the bad days; how it bought the family together. She emphasised the value of  taking pride in my culture through food and the significance of cooking with passion.

The older I got, the more my dedication to food grew: from recipe books to tv shows. In the age of technology I was naturally drawn to Instagram and that was when @a_girls__gotta_eat was born. Fast forward a few years down the line I've had opportunities my teenage self would only dream about, such as starting my own business. I've grown an online foodie community, The FoodieCrew, but also connected with other foodies who share the same appreciation for food that I do!

I live for certain food experiences. For example, them hidden hole in the wall restaurants where good food is fuss free and affordable. But what really makes everything I do worth it, is when I travel and get to see cooks and bakers in action. Take a baker for example, the baker wakes up every day at the crack of dawn to make the freshest bread and pastries for his community. His community relies on him the same way they rely on farmers and butchers e.t.c. The dedication to take time and care into something as simple as bread. This is real food. Food that has nourished for decades and centuries. Ask anyone about their favourite meal and they're most likely going to recall a dish that they ate growing up. And that’s what food is, it's simplicity, flavour and sustenance. It doesn’t need anything more. Don’t get me wrong I can appreciate luxury here and there but it's not reality. Reality is an English breakfast after Sunday mass. Or a gibna bil tomatim (goat's cheese and tomato) sandwich for dinner after school. I'm a firm believer that "everyday food" should be celebrated...

So welcome home.
